Recap Part I.

Written by AbbyC. on July 29, 2007 – 3:19 am -

I have not been updating my blog for like a week. Yeah exactly a week. So what I did for the whole week? Basically the same thing like going for classes, skipping classes, going out, getting online and etc etc.

I still remember no matter how busy I am last time I will still  at least post something in my blog and update all my readers bout what I’m with. That was like few years ago on my first blog XANGA. Since I’ve moved to blogspot I change drastically. Maybe the reason is because my old blog got hacked in and I kinda (kinda) lose faith in blogging.
Nowadays I post whenever I want to. I hope my loyal readers are still with me ^^

So.. here’s the treat. a recap on what I’ve done throughout the whole week.

2 moons in August 27 2007

Written by AbbyC. on July 21, 2007 – 3:52 pm -

Don’t forget to see this amazing scene in August.*Two moons on 27 August 2007*

*27th Aug the Whole World is waiting for………….*

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.

It will look as large as the full moo to the naked eye. This will cultivate on
Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth. Be sure to watch
the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am. It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.

Yeah.. it turns out to be a hoax! dissapointing geez!

astronomical data… on 27 august 2007

  • mars is 1.1802 AU from earth (AU - astronomical unit - 1 AU = average distance between earth and sun = about 150 million kilometers)
  • the moon is 0.0025 AU from earth
  • the moon is 470 times closer to earth than mars
  • mars’ radius is about 3,400 km
  • moon’s radius is about 1,700 km
  • so, mars is about twice as big (radius) as the moon

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August

moon is the brightest object except on new moon… and 27 august is not a new moon day….
according to the astronomical sky charts the moon has a magnitude of 12.32 and mars has a magnitude of 0.41… the magnitude is expressed as a log10 term… like decibels in sound intensity… so the moon is 2.512(12.24 - 0.42) brighter than mars…. numerically, that is 57,500 times…

how does brightness work?

brightness (light intensity) obeys the inverse square law… that is… a lamp 1 meter away from you would have 4 times the brightness if it was 2 meters away from you…
plants and moons such as mars, the moon, jupiter etc. does not emit light, but they reflect light (from the sun)…
so think of mars and the moon as giant mirrors… plant will be seen as a disc to an observer (you) on earth… the amount of light reflected would depend on the (projected) area of the object… which means that mars would reflect 4 times the amount of light than the moon… (because area of a circle is proportional to the square of its radius, A=πR2) but the moon is 470 times closer to earth than mars… which means its (470)

next… It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.

how big an object appears to the naked eye depends on the angle it creates with the eye, called the vision angle… if one object creates and angle of 1° and another 10°… then the latter would appear 10 times bigger than the former… and thats how vision works… and even that can be proven but i dont want to get in to that here… optical instruments such as telescopes, binoculars, microscopes, etc… they alter the vision angle…
so for mars to appear as large as the moon it’ll have a radius 470 times that of the moon!!!

here is a another fact you might be interested in….

the sun is 1 AU from earth and the moon is 0.0025 AU from earth…. so thats about 400 times….
the sun’s radius is 696,000 km!!! and thats about 410 times!!!
so the sun and the moon appears to be that of the same size…
notice during solar total eclipses the moon covers the sun completely… but the corona can be seen…

This will cultivate on Aug. 27 when Mars comes within 34.65M miles of earth.

34.65 million miles = 0.37 AU
on 27 august 2007 mars is 1.1802 AU away from earth!!!!
on 27 august 2005 mars is 0.6896 AU away from earth!!!!

this e-mail can be traced back to 2003… and nasa had issued a notice about it saying that its a hoax… even if you compare the astronomical data back in 2005 mars would be tens of thousands of times less brighter than the moon!

3.18 a.m

Written by AbbyC. on July 19, 2007 – 3:18 am -

i still remember, the ice-cream moments were sweet. not much words not much reaction but smiling and laughing at each other completes a beautiful chapter of a beginning. the msn chatbox with your name and display picture filled with long long conversations all around till the morning. sweet bubbly sms & mms were sent filled with joy and wonders.
first time i’ve watch so many movies with someone. random and impromptu dinners has never been this many with someone i know in such a short period. poking each other, hitting each other in a playful manner and jokingly hold hands, warm hugs and kisses uncountable. all these ran through my head

apparently everything seems to be so fine…

The Drive of Life.

Written by AbbyC. on July 17, 2007 – 2:07 am -

THE DRIVE OF LIFE <<岁月风云>>
TVB Official Website

Official Website (QQ)

Wikipedia

From top left :
Ron Ng, Michael Miu, Fung Shao Feng, Joe Ma, Damien Lau, Raymond Lam, Liu Ging Sang, Ng Wai Kwok.

From bottom left :
Toby Leung, Myolie Wu, Jessica Hester Hsuan, Gigi Wong, Charmaine Sheh, Chiu Ngor, Sheren Tang, Maggie Chan.

ASTRO ON DEMAND. ASTRO ON DEMAND. ASTRO ON DEMAND.

Its everywhere. IT IS TOTALLY OVERRATED. 60 episodes.
Mega production with tonnes of cast. Watch or don’t watch? YOUR VERDICT.

From TV ad’s on the Magnificent Shiny Disc Hero (the idiot fella who sells dvd on series and everyone saying “TAI JOR LOH, watch already!” to him), to Billboards on highway (yes!! billboards with Michael Mui, Jessica Hsuan, Charmaine Sheh, Raymond Lam, Joe Ma, Toby Leung, Damien Lau, Ron Ng.. AHH PLENTY!!), Radio Commercial and 3 channels that are dedicated to AOD on Astro. Channel 36, 931, 913. A production by Poon Ka Tak and Tommy Leung.

Did anyone of you actually subscribe to that channel? Well I didn’t but I am currently catching the one week free preview of Drive. So I’m done with episode one. Whats my say? I’ve got some high expectations on this series when they started choosing the cast. As you can see there’s 16 leads on this series. Strong cast and grand production.  A collaboration TVB with CCTV China.  What interest me is the filming teasers and also previews online are always up to date for this series…COVERAGE are all post. Spoilers are leaked. Well I dig spoilers.

Not much on the first episode.. but I’ve enjoyed Sheren Tang’s (Wong Siu Fun) bitchings on Damien Lau (Wah Man Hang). The way she being protective for her husband Michael Miu (Wah Man Sek) and the way she talk to her father. An act of a sassy wife and fierce arrogant kinda woman. Totally DA BOMB! On the other way.. Damien Lau pissed me off in this series.. well maybe its the beginning and the trailers made me feel so. Personally, I would rather watch him with characters in The Greed of Man. Totally pityful and touching… rather than in Drive. A rather cold and arrogant man. Well this is the beginning lets continue and watch. On episode one, they emphasizes on the status for each of the role and created an intorduction for the 3 brothers which is Damien Lau, Michael Miu and Liu Ging Sang.

Follow up after the veteran actors/actress, Joe Ma as the Executive in the steel company which is somehow a good person and turns evil later and Jessica Hsuan appears as the Finance department manager later becoming an automobile designer. Jessica’s role is interesting enough. She’s sweet, intelligent and of course.. she is pretty.

So while I will be still watching Drive for the whole week expect updates and reviews from me. I’ll find a way to continue this series after the AOD TRIAL ends. Most probably this series I think its worth watching if you have the patience.

Anyhow I still think that THRESHOLD OF AN ERA I & II is the best mega production ever made by TVB.
